Whilst digging around on the internet I discovered the paintings of Nicholas Roerich, a Russian who worked for many yeasr in the Himalayan mountains. Until now I hadn't come across the spiritually aware creator of literally thousands of vibrant, evocative canvases.
This work, from 1924, is called simply Remember. As he journeys on, the rider may indeed remember the two women with whom he converses prior to departure, and they he. His horse, ears laid back, certainly seems to recollect the difficulty and duration of past journeys. However he is a bold and hardy beast.
Having lived in the mountains, albeit not nearly so lofty as the Himalayas, time spent regarding such pictures opens my heart to an old yearning. It reminds me of happinesses too, of good days surrounded by wild beauty. I miss that combination of simplicity with grandeur. How wonderful to discover it captured so fluently.
I've been admiring this painting for a week now. Thanks. :)
