Yesterday we went to see Ruby, the final foal from my old stallion Doru. The filly is four months old now, and turning into a red roan with points just like old Doru. She's a lively, robust, curious youngster.
It is a pleasure to see Doru's line continue in such a nice foal. She has his colouring and a bit of his nature too, including relating to people because she wants to. She exhibits Doru's slight tilt back of the ears when she's had enough of something too - though not in any of these pictures.
I do like to get down to eye level with a quiet filly like Ruby, putting her at ease and allowing her to look me in the face and smell my breath. She's a good honest filly, confident but not pushy.
Ruby's owner is local so I expect to see her being ridden out in four or five years. I expect that she will make a strong, sensible riding horse, and a very pretty one too.
