Doru does like his salt. When I feed him in the evening he eats his dinner then goes to drink, licks his salt block, drinks a little more, licks the salt again.....sometimes the latter part is repeated several times. I do like the way in which this image captures his big pink tongue.
Thinking of salt, Danielle and I have just seen the movie of the same name. As D said at the ending - not so much a cliff-hanger as a helicopter plunge - that smells of a sequel. But it was fun to watch. Ms Jolie is a lively lass. Were she a horse I'd lunge her thoroughly before mounting.
This afternoon I visited an acquaintance who practices equine assisted therapy. That was an eye opener. It never ceases to amaze me how a horse can provide such a mirror to the behaviour and emotions of a person.
She has a retired competition horse there. When his former owner of many years came to visit, he refused to acknowledge her. To her that horse had been just the means to win things. Now it means all the more to me that my horse does recognise me, wants to scratch himself against me, seeks attention and is happy to be groomed.
On reflection it is a special moment even when he simply rams his forehead into my shoulder and rubs hard in order to deal with an irritating itch. That is a sign of our bond. I am his companion and brace myself to withstand over half a ton of horse pushing.
i wish so much that baasha would eat his salt. he has three types but rarely licks them: ( i sprinkle table salt on his dinners.

We have a brand called "Himalayan salt" (it's an orange colour and is supposed to come from those mountains) which D loves. The other horses are very keen on it too. D doesn't touch the other brands. (Typically Himalayan is the most expensive. But it comes from a reputable firm. I expect that it IS good.)
I see from the old Cavalry Manual that a tablespoon of salt in the feed daily has the same effect. So you have been doing the right thing.

I just put 1 Tbsp a.m. and p.m. in their supplements to be mixed with feed. When I've used salt blocks they just end up melting in the rain. :(
