For a while I'd had the thought in mind to repaint my trailer. The old shade of dull brown marine ply sun bleached and held together by rusting steel had begun to seem tedious. Well, it had been annoying me for a while.
The steel was rusting because its Eastern European makers had bodged the galvanising process. That doesn't surprise me. I wanted a trailer in which I could transport horses for yeasr to some. They wanted to sell me a trailer. All that mattered to them was that, at the point of sale, I had a trailer. For all they cared, it could fall to pieces the next year. Well, some application of Hammerite metallic paint, an excellent substance, should arrest that corrosion. After a struggle underneath the trailer all of the chassis is painted. That was the hard bit.
Silver seems like a nice clean efficient colour. It matches the colour that the galvanised chassis ought to have.
I removed the spare wheel in order to paint behind it. That was a good idea. First the timber sheet was beginning to turn mouldy behind the tyre. Secondly the tyre had a cut on the wall. That could only have happened before it was fitted to the trailer. So the manufacturer knowingly (unless blind!) fitted a damaged tyre as the spare. How typically Romanian a deed. Well now I know to change it.
Now the trailer looks smarter. It needs a second coat of silver paint to complete the job but already it looks good. I need to jack it up and remove the wheels to paint behind them, but I can do that at the barn.
I bought the whole stock of metallic silver paint in this town of twenty thousand in order to complete the task. I'll need to order more paint before I can add the second coat.
Danielle is talking about adding some special artwork to personalise the trailer as Doru's. I'm looking forward to that.
I have a sense that this trailer will be around for a while yet.
Wow! looks great I agree on the metal paint.

I'm pleased with it - rather exceeded my expectations in fact. How nice to have a smart trailer at last.
