I face another week away for work, this time on a training course. Much of it, I think, will be spent looking at financial data and case studies. I find this kind of thing interesting in its own sort of way, related mainly to the satisfaction of making sense from a jumble of information. However I won't be able to post whilst away.
Brena was tired today after her longest ride since October. She ambled down to the gate rather than cantering, then stood quietly to be groomed. A great deal of white and brown hair came off her, dappling the ground around her feet and covering my clothes.
Our ride was restrained and sensible. At one point she stumbled, having been paying too much attention to distant things that attracted her curiosity. It was a far quieter perambulation of the farm than Thursday and Friday's energetic efforts.
I trimmed some expoliating frog that was hanging off two feet. I am glad to see some growth taking place. Soon all of the old growth from when she was shod will have disappeared. This growth will also allow the slight imbalance in her hind feet to be corrected.
The photos show her left front, which did not require any attention. It's a little chipped by the hard and in places stony ground but holding up well. However we are fortunate to have so much grass to ride on, and hardly to need to set foot on a metalled road.
Brena's feet are quite upright. However I wonder what changes will occur as she remains barefoot for longer. How much wider will her heels become, and how much larger will her frogs grow?
Anyway I'd better pack and get ready to set off. I want to complete my journey before dark.
