I like the idea of the hosts riding mares. As they are seers and shamans, they would be attuned to darker and more intuitive energies.

I always really enjoy your excerpts and stories, just as much as I enjoy reading about your journey with Brena. I'll look forward to reading more!

Sandra, thank you. Yes, that makes sense, shamans would ride mares. Just as a shaman tends to be damaged psychologically, so they would understand faculties that seem to the rest of us to be broken or illogical. Or simply more complex, like a mare.

I'd better post some more excerts soon! I have been writing busily.

Your ideas remind me of the Earth's Children series by Jean Auel. Years ago I read The Clan of the Cave Bear and the next 3 books and recently I picked up the 6th and last book, which is called The Land of the Painted Caves at a used book stand in an airport. The reviews of the last two books are not as good as those of the earlier ones, but since I'm still in the middle of it I won't express an opinion yet. In case you haven't read the books, the heroine raised a foal whose mother had died and in the last book the resulting mare is accompanied by two of her own offspring. You might find it interesting to see what you think of the horse behavior described. Your own descriptions will benefit from your experience.

Joanne, thank you, that is a helpful comment that gives me something new to look into. I don't get to read nearly enough. I would like to make the horses as real as possible in my writing. They are as complex and varied as some people.
