Good for you! It definitely depends on the horse but I have always ridden bitless when the horse suited it or at least in the mildest bit possible for that horse.


What do you mean by a pressure halter? Over here, a lot of colts get their first rides in a rope halter, and many continue on bitless. I like a good bosal, although I use a bit on my stallion.


I've just posted a picture of the halter that I am using. Before, I used a French Link bit, which is mild. Bitless is really unusual over here, in a country influenced by hunting and competitive disciplines where strong bits and associated gadgets are normal practice. Really, it's an absolute revelation to be able to ride without a bit.
